wUPI

wUPI rewards are distributed among all active hotspots based on their data usage. This ensures that the hotspots carrying the most meaningful traffic are recognized and rewarded fairly.

How wUPI is Calculated

To calculate wUPI, three references are used:

  1. The wUPI rewards pool.

  2. The individual Hotspot wUPI Score.

  3. The Network wUPI Score.

Formula:

(wUPI Pool ÷ wUPI Usage Score) × Hotspot wUPI Score = Hotspot’s wUPI rewards

The total number of $WAYRU available in the wUPI rewards pool is divided by the Network wUPI Score and then multiplied by the Hotspot wUPI Score to determine the amount of $WAYRU distributed per Hotspot per epoch.

Data Types & Ratios

The daily Hotspot wUPI Score is calculated using ratios based on the type of data consumed (GBs). There are three categories:

  • Premium Data – Purchased by telcos with fiat or crypto to offload carrier data. 1 Premium GB = 1 point.

  • Freemium Data – Consumed by users via Wayru’s mobile app or native captive portal. 100 Freemium GB = 1 point.

  • Unsettled Data – OpenRoaming or other unsettled WiFi access. 1,000 Unsettled GB = 1 point.

These ratios ensure that Premium Data contributes the most toward rewards, while Freemium and Unsettled Data provide proportionally smaller contributions.

Example Scenario

  1. Reward Pool Allocation: 240,000 $WAYRU

  2. Data Points:

    Data Type
    Hotspot A
    Hotspot B
    Hotspot C

    500

    2,000

    Freemium

    9,000

    8,000

    10,000

    Unsettled

    Hotspot Usage Score

    200

    600

    2,200

  3. Network Usage Score: 200 + 600 + 2,200 = 3,000

  4. Reward Pool Distribution:

  • Hotspot A’s share of the wUPI reward pool:

(240,000 ÷ 3,000) × 200 = 16,000 $WAYRU
  • Hotspot B’s share of the wUPI reward pool:

(240,000 ÷ 3,000) × 600 = 48,000 $WAYRU
  • Hotspot C’s share of the wUPI reward pool:

(240,000 ÷ 3,000) × 2,200 = 176,000 $WAYRU
  1. Result: 16,000 + 48,000 + 176,000 = 240,000 $WAYRU

wUPI rewards align network incentives with demand, ensuring that hotspots serving real user traffic receive higher rewards.
