Boosted Areas

The Boosted Areas system categorizes deployment zones based on their strategic importance, connectivity needs, and user density. It offers various reward tiers to incentivize deployments and maintain a balanced, high-impact network.

What are Boosted Areas?

Boosted Areas are specific geographical zones identified and marked by the Wayru Foundation as high-priority for network expansion. These zones are selected for their potential to significantly improve connectivity, unlock economic value, or serve areas with underserved populations.

Unlike a uniform grid or tiling system, Boosted Areas are manually chosen and dynamically updated. They are clearly defined on the map within the Wayru platform, making it easy for operators to identify where enhanced rewards are available.

Why Areas Instead of Hexes?

While many decentralized networks use automated grid systems, Wayru takes a more targeted and strategic approach. Boosted Areas are hand-picked based on real-world conditions, not arbitrary grid placement.

This ensures:

  • Efficient Resource Allocation – By focusing rewards on priority locations, Wayru can close critical connectivity gaps faster.

  • Deployment Impact – Operators are encouraged to bring service where it’s needed most, not just where it’s convenient.

  • Network Resilience – Strategic placement strengthens the overall coverage and redundancy of the network.

Area Tiers and Reward Multipliers

To incentivize optimal hotspot deployment, each Boosted Area is assigned a reward tier. Deployments within these zones will receive increased multipliers for wUBI and wUPI rewards.

Dynamic Adjustment and Monitoring

Boosted Area designations are not static. The Wayru Foundation continuously monitors network performance, usage data, and connectivity demand to update the Area categories and their associated multipliers.

  • Periodic Updates: Boosted Area status will be reviewed and adjusted regularly based on real-time metrics.

  • Usage Metrics: Network load, user density, data consumption, and regional connectivity gaps inform decisions.

  • Mobility Between Tiers: Areas can be promoted or demoted between tiers as conditions change.

How an Area Becomes Boosted

Boosted Areas are strategically selected to maximize Wayru’s impact in underserved or high-opportunity regions. The Wayru Foundation is responsible for identifying and updating these zones.

Only the Wayru Foundation can designate Boosted Areas. This ensures that early resources are directed intentionally, rather than diluted through arbitrary or uncontrolled expansion.

Boosted status may also be granted in coordination with local partners, carriers/telcos, NGOs, or development agencies to amplify mutual benefits.
