The Boosted Hexes system categorizes hexes based on their strategic importance, connectivity needs, and user density. It offers various reward levels to incentivize deployment and maintain network balance.

What are Hexes?

In decentralized internet networks, Hexes refer to hexagonal geographical areas that divide the map into distinct zones for better management, monitoring, and reward allocation. This hexagonal tiling system offers several advantages that make it ideal for decentralized network explorers.

Why Hexes are Used

  1. Efficient Coverage and Management:

    • Uniformity: Hexagons are the most efficient tiling method, with minimal edge effects compared to squares or other shapes. Each hexagon is equal in distance to its neighbors, helping create a more uniform and balanced coverage area.

    • Coverage Optimization: Hexagons cover an area without overlapping or leaving gaps, ensuring that the entire geographical area is efficiently divided and managed.

  2. Geospatial Analysis:

    • Scalability: Hexagonal grids allow for scalable and flexible mapping, making it easier to manage geographical areas of various sizes without compromising the integrity of the data.

    • Precision: Hexagons enable precise and granular geographical data analysis, essential for making informed resource allocation and network management decisions.

  3. Enhanced Connectivity Management:

    • Strategic Deployment: By dividing the area into Hexes, network operators can identify and prioritize zones with higher user demand or lower connectivity, ensuring strategic and efficient deployment of network resources.

    • Dynamic Adjustment: Hex-based systems can dynamically adjust reward allocations based on real-time data on network usage and connectivity needs, helping to maintain a balanced and responsive network.

Hex Tiers and Reward Allocation

To encourage optimal hotspot deployment and usage, Hexes are categorized into five tiers, with increasing multipliers for and .

Dynamic Adjustment and Monitoring

  • Periodic Updates: Hex categories and reward allocation will be updated periodically based on real-time data on network usage, connectivity needs, and strategic importance.

  • Usage Metrics: Continuous monitoring of data usage, user connections, and network performance to dynamically adjust Hex categories and reward allocations.

  • Tier Movement: Hexes can move between tiers based on changes in user density and connectivity needs, ensuring dynamic and responsive reward distribution.

How a Hex Becomes Boosted

Boosted Hexes are strategically selected zones essential for expanding Wayru’s network and optimizing its impact. The Wayru Foundation chooses these areas based on their potential to address connectivity gaps, unlock key opportunities, and strengthen the network infrastructure.

During the initial growth phase (the first five years after TGE), the Wayru Foundation will oversee and limit which Hexes can become Boosted. This prevents random allocation and ensures resources are focused where they are needed most.

*Boosted Hexes multipliers will begin after TGE.
