πŸ†”Decentralized Identity (DID)

Empowering Secure and Private Connectivity.

Wayru uses Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) to enhance security, privacy, and user control within its ecosystem. By leveraging DIDs, users gain self-sovereign identities, allowing them to manage and control their identity data without relying on centralized authorities. DIDs provide tamper-proof and immutable identity verification through blockchain technology, reducing the risk of data breaches and ensuring privacy by enabling selective disclosure of information.

Understanding Decentralized Identities

A Decentralized Identity (DID) is a unique sequence of code used to identify any particular entity (person, organization, device) in a decentralized manner without relying on a central authority.

DIDs are registered on a decentralized ledger, such as a blockchain, and are verified by a network of nodes. This decentralized verification process ensures that the identity data is secure, tamper-proof, and under the user’s control.

Creation of DID

When a user registers on the Wayru app, a DID is generated. This DID is associated with a pair of cryptographic keys: a private key (held securely by the user) and a public key (published on the blockchain).

Authentication

The user's device signs a message with the private key to prove their identity. This signed message is then verified by checking the corresponding public key on the blockchain.

DIDs function as WiFi credentials in the Wayru network. When a DID-equipped device comes within range of a Wayru hotspot, it can automatically connect to the network without needing passwords. The verification process is decentralized, enhancing both security and efficiency.

So, in simple terms, Decentralized Identities allow users to identify themselves on a platform without revealing personal information.
