Uptime

Rewards eligibility has been carefully defined with the Network’s health in mind and is tied to Hotspot uptime and performance to ensure quality of service (QoS) and accountability.

Uptime rewards are divided into five specific requirements, each reflecting proof of coverage (POC) and service availability. Hotspots earn Uptime rewards by complying with one or more of the set requirements to promote high reliability and uptime.

Reward Requirements

  1. Heartbeat

    • A heartbeat is a signal the Hotspot sends indicating it is operational, all systems function correctly and remains connected to the network. This signal acts as a health check, allowing monitoring systems to detect any disruptions or failures quickly.

    • Regular heartbeat signals help maintain network stability and performance, ensuring a consistent and dependable user experience.

    • Heartbeats are sent every hour.

    • 24 heartbeats are expected daily for full rewards eligibility.

  2. Radio Uptime

    • Radio uptime measures the radio or radios on the Hotspot continuously broadcasting the required Wayru WiFi SSIDs during the epoch, indicating how consistently it remains active and connected to the network.

    • It is a critical metric for assessing the reliability and stability of wireless connections, as higher uptime percentages reflect fewer disruptions and better overall performance, minimizing downtime and enhancing the user experience.

    • Successful radio uptime signals are accounted for every continuous hour of service.

    • 24 consecutive hours of radio uptime are expected daily for full rewards eligibility.

  3. Latency

    • Latency is a critical factor in determining the quality of a network connection. It measures the time it takes for data to travel from the source to the destination and back again, typically measured in milliseconds (ms).

    • Lower latency indicates a more responsive connection, enhancing the user experience and ensuring efficient network performance.

    • A Latency test is performed randomly 8 times per epoch.

    • A latency of 50ms or less is expected on every test for full rewards eligibility.

  4. Backhaul UploadâŦ†/âŦ‡Download Speed

    • A speed measures the download and upload speeds between a user's device and a server, typically quantified in megabits per second (Mbps). It indicates the rate at which data can be transferred over the network.

    • Higher speeds indicate a more robust and efficient network that supports activities such as streaming, gaming, and large file transfers.

    • A speed test is conducted randomly 8 times per epoch.

    • The Hotspot must achieve a minimum download speed of 50mbps and an upload speed of 25mbps in every speed test for full rewards eligibility.

  5. Minimum Usage

    • The device should get at least one (1) connection daily for full rewards eligibility.

Rewards Calculations

Hotspot Operators earn rewards per epoch, encouraging consistent performance and service quality. By implementing this structured reward system, Wayru ensures high-quality service for users while fostering the reliability and adoption of its network.

Uptime-Based Tiering System Table

If a Hotspot goes 60 days without meeting any requirement, it will be tagged inactive. To reactivate it, $25 USD in $WAYRU needs to be burned, plus a 10 USDC penalty fee.
